I had a bunch of major FUBAR'ed things. The wake-from-sleep thing was just the tip of the iceberg. I had problems booting, that a reinstall solved.

I can see a re-install on a beta release (such as the original OS X before 10.2, or Safari), but not on a release-quality product; again, unless it is FUBAR'd.
