I can guarantee that this is a Mashita (or Matsushita) because of the
SR-8174 in there. That is the Mashita model number, where the dying LGs
number is LG-8080B. You might have good luck with that drive (but no
guarantee =)

I think a 9.5mm height drive will be no problem because the drives are
secured by screws on the _side_ of the drive (?) and there are rubber
grommets to keep it from sloshing around.

Let me know how this DVD turns out for you. I am in Europe as well.
