AFAIK, Apple won't void your PowerBook's warranty for something which they themselves describe as a user replacable item. Any AASP-types care to comment? Hal, go here <http://www.hgst.com/warranty/jsp/arma31.jsp> and see if the drive is covered directly by IBM/Hitachi's usual 3 year warranty. Though the drive shipped inside an Apple product it _may_ also be covered by the maker's warranty. If it does come up as covered, call the warranty 800 number and ask for the warranty expiration date. Being warranted makes a drive more valuable and _much_ easier to sell. Hey, I was looking at the 40GN at newegg.com, and see it described as having only a one year warranty. Dammit, whassup with that? Geez, are all drives gonna end up being covered 1 yr only? Funnily enough, the googlegear.com description showed the same mechanism as 3 yrs . . . And what about the 80GNX 80GB mechanism, has anyone seen those in stock anywhere? Price?
