For OS 8/9, try the excellent freeware control panel Shadow Keys from Swiss developers Opus Software. <http://www.opus.plugin.ch/freeware/sk> It reassigns the enter key to become another command key, as well as allowing you to set a keystroke for forward delete. It usually recognises your keyboard and makes the right suggestions. Excellent for the original iMac/G3/G4 USB keyboards as well.
