Hal, Vicki, and others,

I'm glad to hear that there *was* a PC card linked drive that worked for booting your Pismo. MCE still sells a nice expansion bay enclosure that is bootable, too. Know, however, that the "DN-Boy" and MacAlly model CA-250MA are NOT bootable for the Pismo, and are not even recognized by the Pismo as mountable hard drives under OS X. [Under OS 9, the MacAlly model is mountable, but the DN-Boy is not. I've tried!]

Back when I used a souped-up Powerbook 1400 and OS 8.6, I was a great advocate of the CA-250MA, which was bootable. That functionality has been gradually lost, to the point where the housing was useless to me and I sold it on ebay.

Because of Apple's declining support of PCMCIA (PC-Card, aka Cardbus), I cannot recommend that anyone invest significantly in such devices.

As far as I know, aside from expansion bay hard drives (like the MCE X-Cart Pro 99) and CD-ROMs, the only way to boot a Pismo is via external Firewire housings, such as the one I've mentioned recently on this list.

Vicki,

The Data Shuttle I mentioned is a laptop hard drive mounted in an
external case, connected to the powerbook via a PC card interface card
(ide/pc card adapter). I got mine several years ago from MCE and have
used it with a Wallstreet, a Lombard, a Pismo and a 2400c. It's bus
powered, so you don't need an external power supply. I'm not sure if
they still make them though. I just sold my spare on the swaplist.

Hope that helps.

Hal,
From another novice: Is a PC card data shuttle hard drive different
from other drives? Is it possible the CD Clone method would work a
Wallstreet?

If so, any suggestions where & how much ($) to purchase such a drive
(card)?
