as far as i know, -none- of the lombard powerbooks (officially called 
the "Powerbook G3 (Bronze Keyboard)") had a built in DVD decoder. the 
Powerbook (Firewire) (aka "Pismo") was the first model to support DVD 
without a cardbus decoder card.

hardware acceleration is slowly trickling down to older machines in OS 
X. several of the last few releases have added a machine or two to the 
list. that said, i don't think hardware-based DVD solutions will be 
supported in OS X... and this isn't just powerbooks, but also the 
PowerMac G3's and the first PowerMac G4.
