This may not be it but check it out...I had a similar problem quite a while back...I had to re-install the energy saver extension. It came with 9.2.1 and was version 3.0.5 148K Saw you did the reinstall of X and 9...Maybe it isn't in those versions.. At any rate after I replaced it my Pismo would slep properly and wake up.
