If this line is ALWAYS in exactly the same place, and doesn't ever change at 
all (other than being visible or invisible depending on the color), then it 
is the LCD, and not anything else.  Does it show up as soon as the computer 
comes on (even before you get a smiley face or "welcome" icon)? If so, it's 
definitely the LCD.
