I don't know how you define 'obsolete' but my definition is 'no longer supported'. I don't think I would therefore class any G3 or G4 machine (apart maybe from the original G3 PB) as obsolete.
The 1GHz G4 PB may cease to be a *current model* on July 14th. That however does not make it obsolete. That said most rumors say the current 15" G4 TiPB form factor may be being abandoned and upgraded to allow for the enhancements seen in the 17" and 12" models. Even so it's still very much supported by Apple, still in warranty and still viable for an AppleCare warranty extension.
