I *always* put my Pismo to sleep. The reason is quite simple: I get my computer running as I want it and I don't want to go through all that again. For example, right now I have running: Terminal, Adium, Camino, Path Finder, Project Builder, Interface Builder, Tex-Edit Plus, AppleWorks (for the spreadsheet... ugh), MSN Messenger, SBook5, Adobe Illustrator, Mathematica. I use VirtualDesktop to organize so that I don't go buggy with 500 windows. Certain windows on each desktop from different programs... things arranged just so. And yes, I do actually use all of those programs... they don't just sit there dormant.
If shut down every time I stop working for the night, it will take me a *long* time to get things set up in such an efficient manner. Sleep is a godsend for me -- just pop Bessie open in the morning and there's everything, just as I need it, ready to work. Incidentally, the last time I had a sleep issue was with OS 9.2. No trouble at all with 10.x except when I'm an idiot and remove BOTH the AC adapter AND the battery at the same time! :-P This is just how I work -- it probably *isn't* how most people work. But it's an example of what sleep is useful for. - Dave -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
