Also, is this the kind of surgery I can do myself (I've changed HD's and RAM in the Pismo) or is this a certified tech kind of deal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a couple of web sites online that detail how to take a Pismo apart. This is one: <http://homepage.mac.com/sysop/PhotoAlbum7.html> If there are archives for this list, another, even more detailed was given just last week or so.

In any case, the board on which the plug you want exists is just about the last piece to go. If you've never taken a laptop computer apart before, I don't recommend it. If, however, you have experience with peeling away layers of computer components, keeping track of multitudes of screws, and feel comfortable unplugging fragile ribbon cables, then you may want to try it. :-) You may get lucky, and only need to solder the plug back in, or you may find it easier to replace the small board on which it resides. Happy hunting. :-)
