I didn't mean to sound arrogant, but when one has the tinkering experience I have, then it gets a bit boring with the "be careful" comments, BUT (!) I can see your point of view too! :o)
For polishing the coating off, I recommend brasso.'
Ok, there'll be an equivallent here in Sweden.
Do you know the clarity of screens?
Not sure, but surely one should be able to ploish it to clear if it's a little matt. There's nothing like trying :o)
