When I upgraded the drive in my Pismo from the stock 10GB Toshiba to a 30GB, 4200 rpm Travelstar when I was running OS 9.2.2 the impact on performance was profound. Actually, it pissed me off to think that Apple had designed this machine and then hampered it with a drive that couldn't keep up with the rest of the machine!
Last week I had the opportunity to upgrade this drive (I'm now running OS 10.2.6 and also upgraded the cpu to a G4/500Mhz) to a 40GB, 5400rpm Travelstar. Definitely noticing additional performance improvement over the 4200rpm drive... especially in Entourage which was really the only app I noticed was slow on this machine.
Hope this helps! ... Eric
Hi all,
new to the list-- New wallstreet will soon arrive with a 4 gb HD. I'm
looking at upgrading this unit to max performance with stock 266mhz chip,
running OS 9.2, but with an eye toward possibly running 10.2 in the future.
(512mb RAM installed).
I need a bigger hard drive, and I'd pay the extra dough if those who know
would confirm a substantial performance improvement by using the faster hard
drives. I see where there is even a new 40gb 7200 rpm Travelstar out for
this computer.
Any comments, pro or con?
