Here's a challenge:
I have an iBook 600 and a buddy has a 3400c 200. His unit has InfraRed, my iBook does not. I bought a MadsonLine IRDA to USB dongle. My unit recognizes it in X.2.3. Great so far. But HOW the HECK do I get the 3400c and the iBook to see each other via IRDA? Can't figure out how to set them up after hours of Googling and trying. Apple docs are no help.
Anyone? Ground up explanation and techniques?
Thanks in advance...
Run Vzel
I would check if the adapter is seen by OS X as a valid network port. Go to System preferences-->Network and select Show: Network por configurations
If it is recognized, then the IRDA port should appear besides Ethernet and modem; then you need to activate it. I would create a separate location, say "Infrared", with only that port active.
Next part is to check that File Sharing is enabled. Depending on the OS version running on 3400, you may also need to activate AppleTalk (for recent versions, you could do it all over TCP/IP).
There are a few more details. but this may get you in the right direction.
