5 months ago I bought an iBook (500 mhz, 128mb, 20gig HD)
In the last 4 weeks I try to install three different memory chips, a 128 pulled from a Wallstreet, a 256 mb from a Pismo, and today another 256 mb from a brand new titanium. The first 2 are PC100, the titanium one is a PC133.=20
None of them seeme to work in my ibook, The =B3about this mac=B2 and the system
profiler both in OS 9 and OS X show the memory slot as empty. I zapped the
pram, reset the machine, rebuilt the desktop (in OS 9), and restarted
countless times and it always booted up normally but the ram is not
recognized, it always shows just the 128 megs. At first I thought it was a
ram incompatibility, but now I am starting to think that maybe the slot is
damaged, although I never heard of a situation like this. Any ideas?
Suggestions?
I heard that some older ram is incompatible with the latest firmware update= , but I guess that the memory chip fresh from a titanium is ruling out this possibility.
Thanks for any help.
I once had a similar experience, where I installed a new ram chip in a wallstreet pb, started it up and it was not recognized. It turned out the ram wasn't properly seated. It may be that it is not pushed all the way.
