If you mean that the screen contrast is uniformly fading out of 
visibility, it may be that the temperature compensation circuit (auto 
contrast) in the LCD has gone south.. I've had this problem several 
times, though not on PowerBooks. My "fix" was to replace either the 
sensor or the digital pot with a voltage divider; I lose the amenity of

temperature contrast compensation but at least the unit works...
