Just a matter of time though before they start showing up on eBay in quantity. but as I previously wrote: >But for some real !excitement! :-), check this out: ><http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/computer/storage/multi/> > >available here (only source of which I'm aware): ><http://www.esbuy.com/paslno2xdv.html> > >I haven't ponied up the dough for one of these _yet_, but I'd sure >like to try one in a Pismo EBM! :-) AND being a Matsushita drive >I'm hopeful the Apple face might even fit! I guess I should have mentioned the above links point to information about and a source for the Matsushita DVD-R/W mechanisms. It's their latest "SuperDrives", burning DVDs blindingly fast at 2x speed right inside your ancient Lombard or Pismo (if you swap one into a Lombard/Pismo EBM that is.) Matsushita also make a similarly specced and priced slotloader, which I think would be much cooler, no bloddy tray popping out the side getting tangled up in god-knows-what. I did eBuay (@ ~$200) a Toshiba SD-R6012 DVD-R/W(both @1x)/CDRW which in a Lombard/Pismo EBM sled worked fine using Toast 5.1.x. While I've not burned anything using DVDPro, the drive appeared to be supported. However it arrived sans a faceplate of any kind and no other face I have fit either. That makes it kind of impractical to actually use in the real (ie: dirty and dusty) world. I just stumbled across another source of similar drives: <http://www.macresq.com/store/superdrive.php> However these slotloading mechanisms write DVD-R media at 1x only (in contrast to the 2x speed of the Matshita mechanism I reference above.) I don't know which mechanism macresq is selling, they don't give much detail. They probably don't come with any faceplate at all since macresq is selling them for internal PB G4 installation, and at $350 (with no combo drive trade-in) aren't exactly a bargain. hth, Dan K ................................. http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 ................................. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
