Is the 'Book trying to find a network connection? Network panel allows 
for various connection methods. The suggestion to use a static IP address 
is a good one, that eliminates one potential variable. Also you might try 
rearrainging the order of your connections so your usual connection 
method is first in line. 

I don't recall if OP reset Open Firmware, that might be useful too. I 
forget the commands but someone here is sure to know the necessary 
incantations.

It's a good idea to try possible solutions one at a time, that way you 
can learn which actually solved the problem. Not that I follow my own 
advice, I usually try everything at once. :-)
