Christine <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> asks: >I was wondering if anyone would know where one could obtain an >expansion bay combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) for a WallStreet G3. I don't know of any such drives for WS, though I'd be very glad to hear about 'em if they do exist. I'm not even aware of any CD-R/RW drives actually, let alone combo drives.
>Could a bare-bones laptop combo drive be mounted in a WallStreet >drive sled? Has this worked for anyone? As Wallstreet sleds cannot acommodate 'standard' slim (laptop) optical mechanisms, the only possible (though highly unlikely) solution would be locate a combo mechanism with similar construction to the original WS item and swap the internals. I say highly unlikely as _every_ combo drive of which I'm aware fits the standard slim form-factor, which cannot be readily adapted to the WS's peculiar optical drive form. Here's a bit more info (with pics) at my page on PB expansion bay modules: <http://macdan.n3.net/ebms.html#wallstreet> BTW for those folks with Lombards/Pismos, I thought I'd mention my latest EBM build - a Matsushita UJ811b DVD-R/RW in a Pismo sled. The usual minor interface board shunt and Matshita faceplate mod were all it needed (actually, I just swapped out my existing UJDA730 combo drive, physically identical to the UJ811.) <http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/computer/storage/multi/images/pdf/UJ-8 11.pdf> Sorry Christine, you'll just have to move up to a Lombard or Pismo. :-] hth, Dan K ................................. http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 ................................. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
