You can do the same thing in X. Look in the Library folder, for the
Preferences folder. You should be able to find many files related to
Explorer and Entourage.

I would suggest that you check the crash log. Again, in your Library folder
should be a folder named "Logs". Inside is another folder named
"CrashReporter". Look for a file named "Entourage.crash.log" or
"Explorer.crash.log". That might give you a clue as to why the applications
are crashing upon launching.

As a first step, I would recommend running Disk Utility to repair
permissions on the startup disk.
