I have used it a few times and it always worked fine. 10.3.1 is supposed to fix the Firewire problem but if you want to stay on the safe side, just unmount your disk in the Finder and then disconnect it from your Macintosh before rebooting. To move your stuff from one PowerBook to the other, use one of them in Firewire target mode. Restart then immediately press the 'f' key until you see the Firewire symbol on screen.
