Could be. It depends on how they were installed in the first place, but it's
not always a good rule. If you have to use an installer, then there might be
additional piece of software installed in various parts of the system. I use
WeatherPop and I think it was just a matter of dragging and dropping the app
in the Applications folder.

Have you tried to use something like "Cache Out X" to clean the cache kept
by the system? If that doesn't work, what I did in the past is to rename my
Library folder, in my home folder, then log out immediately. Of course, no
application should be running when you do that. Then, you can login. Your
environment will be reset as if you had just created your account. If the
problem doesn't happen, then there might be a preference file corrupted
somewhere. If there are some settings in some applications that you need,
you can then copy those from your copy of your Library folder to your new
Library folder. At some point, when putting back those things, you might
want to logout and login to see if the problem reappears. If you're going
that way, you might want to label the files you move back to your new
Library folder. If you logout and login and the problem start happening
again, then you know which were the latest files you did move back.
