It might be a little expensive for your purposes, but I might mention 
the Sony 500 or 510 units. They are not supported for the Mac but they 
work fine using Toast.  You cannot access from iTunes and  to update 
the firmware you must connect it to a Windows computer. I have had one 
for 6 months or so and it has performed flawlessly. It burns CD-R/RW 
(24x) and DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW (1x to 8x depending on media) With the 
proper software I have copied any DVD I want.
