I don't think Microsoft completely ditched it, simply because nothing short
of Windows Media Player 9 could play my ASF files, and nearly all tapeless
camcorders these days output the video to the ASF format.  Perhaps there was
an earlier version of ASF that was dumped and now Microsoft "created" a new
version?  Anyway, I found a simple video converter (for windoze :( that can
convert any movie Windows Media Player 9 can read into mpeg1, mpeg2, dvd,
vcd, svcd, or avi with a choice of codecs. (the converter is called EasyX
Video Converter, such an original name...)  Quicktime on my iBook can read
the converted files and imports nicely into iMovie.  For now, this will have
to do (at least until a mac version is made...
