I remember reading in the list digest a few weeks back about bringing dead yo-yo's back to life. I have a dead yo-yo which is from my sister's Blueberry iBook. She has now got one of my father's spare "third-party" adapters, as he is leaving his beloved Lombard for a G4 15". (The Lombard will be going to replace a 7200/90--don't laugh--which is acting as my mom's machine, and as a LaserWriter Bridge on the home network.)
I saved the dead yo-yo, in the hopes that I can revive it for use with my Pismo as a spare--my battery life isn't what it used to be. Being a cheap university student, the cheapest solution is just to filch power from a convenient outlet. At the current time, a new battery is out of the question (though, I've always wanted two of them ...). Problem is, I don't like disassembling my desk to bring along my adapter all the time. A second one would be most convenient! The cable at the machine connector end is sparking (obviously shorted wire, probably from abusive use/old age). I believe the solution was to hack the casing off of this, cut wire, re-solder the connections, then insulate with shrink tube and silicone caulk. Anybody have any further tips? On a side note, would I get a new one out of Apple if I mailed the adapter to them? Thanks:-) -- Regards, Dante McLean Dante McLean Photography Pismo, NeXTstation (x 2), NeXTstation TurboColor, NeXT 400dpi LaserPrinter (x 2). -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
