First of all you'd need a faster processor like a 500 mhz G3/G4 upgrade. A 266 will skip frames and turn the video to a slide presentation with sound. Under OS 9 I have had best results with 3ivx <http://www.3ivx.com/> and Quicktime player, but typically I had to translate the movie with DivX Doctor (available at the 3ivx web site), as QT have a bug with embedded Mp3 sound. But there is also the DivX codec from DivX Networks <http:// www.divx.com/divx/mac/>. Under OS X, where I've had splendid results, there is above all Mplayer <http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/>. Current version is beta6, but I recommend beta4, as it lacks some of the sync problems with beta5. VLC <http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html> may be good on a G4, but takes too much resources on a G3 in my experience. Current version is 0.7. Avoid version 0.6. Both these open source players also play Windows Media and ASF formats better than Windows Media Player. Which sure is telling. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
