Huh, you think that the MPEG2 component for QT is G4-only, but then I managed to playback a ripped DVD on my Lombard 333 in OS X. The playback in QT was pretty bad (9-10 fps), but this was on a 333, in OS X, with Mail, iChat, PowerPoint running. This makes me think a little... if Apple releases specs on the DVD decoder card and decoder chip in the Lombard 400, it would be possible to make a component for the Lombard to playback MPEG2 through the decoder card, and default to the software one when the card isn't present... hmm....
