well I start looking on e-bay for a logic board.
PS: is it difficult to soldier a serial port along with its fuses (provided I can get to see the Apple manual)?

Welcome, Ben. You're definitely at the right list. Sorry to hear about your problem. You could maybe try to use a vintage communication program to see if that application is able to use the serial port. If not, then it's probably the logic board.
