Thanks all. Jim As much as I'd like to say I agree with others suggestions it might just be a jostled-loose or damaged cable, I'm afraid my experience suggest the LCD itself is damaged. A single line of pixels defect is almost certainly caused by a failed (open or shorted) very fragile tiny connection at the edges of the LCD where the LCD's integral controller attaches to the LCD screen itself. It could also be caused by damage to the LCD's controller PCB though given the fragile nature of LCDs' edge connections I'd say it's a fair bet that's the more likely suspect, esp. as the cause was a tumble. Each color column and row of a TFT LCD is controlled by its own individual circuit, so if any of those are damaged it usually just affects those damaged columns (or rows.) If the cable from the logic board is jostled-loose or damaged it will usually affect a range of screen addresses, if not the entire screen. I'm sorry to be the bad-news-bearer, and I truly hope I'm wrong. If LCD replacement is in the cards, you can use an LCD from a Lombard (various PC laptops too) as long as it's the same make and model LCD. You just reuse your old cable as a Lombard's cable differs from Pismo's or PC laptop's cable. Note the LCD's model number and do an eBay search for variations on that string using the "search in titles & descriptions" check box (eg: samsung LTN141X8 - this is just an example and not necessarily the model _you_ may need.) You'll be surprised at how many turn up, 14" TFTs are a very common laptop screen size. Also, keep in mind your damaged LCD is still worth something, so if you do buy a perfect replacement you could then sell off your defective (but still functional) LCD for a suprisingly large percentage of what you paid for the replacement (or knowing eBay craziness, even more! :-) hth, Dan K ................................. http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 ................................. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
