The machine hangs up in the boot process with the message "The
built-in memory test has detected a problem with cache memory. Please
contact a service technician for assistance." The boot process will
continue upon acknowledging the message. The problem turns out to be that
there is no cache anymore. I haven't heard of any way of repairing the
processor. I believe the frequency of failures is the reason that prices
are sky high for used processors, damn near half as much as the book is
worth.
