Hello everyone:

In case anyone is interested, I thought I'd let everyone know I'm using GPS on my Mac. Although I'm not using it on my trusty old Wallstreet, I would image you could, and I'm sure you could on a Pismo. Here's the story:

For Christmas I got Route66 2004 for Mac. (This software, however, will not work on my Wallstreet as I believe you have to have a 500Mhz processor). I've had a ball with it and even used it to navigate my way home from Chicago, some 300 miles, when we took an alternative route. I've been wanted to get a GPS receiving unit. My birthday was last week and my wife gave me the green light when Belkin had their half price sale. I bought a Bluetooth unit for $150.00 and a Belkin refurbished Bluetooth adapter for my 500Mhz dual USB iBook.

This thing is really slick. I took it out for a spin tonight. The GPS unit is about the size of one of the old zippo cigarette lighters, maybe a little bigger, but about twice as thick. I placed it up where the windshield meets the dash (no wires mind you), turned it on, fired up the iBook and launched Route 66. I changed the map resolution to show a 10 mile by 10 mile map and it showed somewhere far away (didn't recognize any names). Then I clicked on the GPS button and BAM, there the map was, centered at my house, with our 10 acre lake right where it should be. As we began to move, the crosshairs changed to an arrow and it gave the correct indication all the way into town, some 12 miles, changing orientations as we moved along. The GPS window gave our directions, altitude, coordinates and speed (which matched my speedometer). When we got to town we drove around several small streets, (with houses and trees (no leaves though) and buildings all around). I was really curious as to whether I would loose a signal as we drove around, making turns here and there, but we never did. My daughter had a ball telling me the street names as we drove by and she was spot on, e.g. when she said we were crossing Missouri street, we were in fact crossing Missouri street.

The info about GPS on the Mac has been pretty spotty, so if any of you have any questions, ask away.
