Subject: dvd/cd/cdr replacement f/Pismo

The dvd/cd drive in my Pismo is dying (it's a slow death apparently)
and I am getting tired of the death throes. Several months ago
somebody recommended a Lite-On LSC 24801 or a Sony CRX820 as possible
replacements. Both of these are DVD/CDRW drives. The original poster
(back in December) thought they should be available online for around
$80. Not finding them anywhere. So...anybody have any suggestions for
replacement drives for the Pismo - would definitely prefer a DVD/CDR
combo drive. Do NOT need a DVD-R unit. Thanks.

Denny

I put a Matshita UJDA-720 combo drive in my Wife's Pismo, bought of eBay. I also used a UJDA-710 in another Pismo I had. Both had to have the drive support files modified to use Finder and iTunes burning, but that's a simple process for OS9 and OSX. Laptop drives are standard, as long as there is a burn support file to modify they can be used for the Mac. Teac, Sony, Matshita, Toshiba.....
IIRC, I got both of the drives for about that price.
