Obviously the computer isn't acting normally - and being a PowerBook man has nothing to do with it. If you use OS X then you should be able to handle some basic troubleshooting for him. First, create a new user account and make sure the computer isn't configured to automatically boot into his current account. Turn the computer off and the back on. Log into the new account. If his computer suddenly behaves then we know something in his account is involved in the crashing. A corrupt configuration file or 3rd party program might be to blame. It would be worth a little detective work to check out his account and see if all his third party software is up to date. Also you might want to clear out his preferences folder and let the software create new pref files. Restart again and see if his account is behaving now. If not - trash the account and let him start over with a new one. If the new account didn't fix the problem he might have installed something globally that is causing the problem...or it might be the OS installation...or the hardware. These are listed in order from easiest to hardest in terms of dealing with. I'd recommend backing up the data and then doing a complete wipe of the drive and reinstall with the software reinstall disk. If the problem still persists give Apple a call for a pickup. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
