Will a Pismo boot from an external Firewire drive with OS X on it (specifically Panther)?

If yes, a follow up question is if I can use Carbon Copy Cloner to simply move my present OS X to the Firewire drive and then boot from there.

I have this setup at this very moment. Booting from the external drive helps when I need to run a disk utility. BTW, the external drive is a 120 (okay, 112) GB EZ-Quest.
