I keep running into it - to the extent that I have to output postscript and then have my husband distill it with Acrobat on his work PC to get output I can count on being right.
I create the weekly church bulletin and monthly scuba club newsletter in PDF, all used both for downloading from their respective web sites, and for someone else to print final copies, of course :-( from PCs
99+% of the file will be fine - but then I'll have things like (text in parentheses) come out as )text in parentheses) or -text in parenthesis-
REALLY annoying!! I've had similar problems with dollar signs (in my most recent newsletter, one printed as a dash) and dashes - not special-character m- and n-dashes, but plain-vanilla standard-character top-2nd-key-from-the-right dashes.
Does anyone know anything about this?
BTW, if the PDF created in OS X is redistilled (->Postscript->PDF on the windows machine to use the image compression options of distiller, as I have to for the newsletter which has photos & would be WAY too large for dial-up download otherwise), the final PDF created by distiller will show the error when viewed on the Mac.
(So when I do the church bulletin, instead of just printing/save as PDF, I have to choose output options -> save to file/Postscript, then zip it, it's still too big to email so I have to put it on the yahoo briefcase, then send my husband an email asking him to download & distill it, & he emails it back to me. You can see how this, done a couple times a week for proof & final copy, can become a major annoyance!!)
