Usually, the modem is "free" or at least included in your monthly bill.

That lets you connect one computer to your ISP. If you want to connect
more, you will need some sort of router. They are rather cheap these
days ($50 or less). You can even get one with wireless capability,
the slower type, for that much.

Don't know what you mean by NAT, but a router allowes you to subdivide
your one IP address to a subnetwork for other machines.

I depends on what kind or router you get. If I were buying one, I would
get one with "built in" wireless capability. There are a ton available.
Airport is one, but on the pricey side. Unless you have to route
AppleTalk, save some $$ and get a Linksys or such.
