One of the easiest things to do is pull any extra ram. Bad ram caused big startup probs in my orig iMac. Now working fine.
Now have to see if ram warranty is lifetime! (4 yr old)

Hi G-bookers, I recently acquired a PowerBook G3/300. I know next to
nothing about it's history, but it is in great physical condition. The
machine has no main battery, but I am using a good power supply. The
machine gives a good strong chime on startup, and the screen seems nice
and bright, but stays gray, with no pointer, just a gray screen. I
have not tested the internal battery, but wonder if a dead internal
battery might be the problem. Shall I change the internal battery?
Any suggestions?
