Sorry for the late reply. Actually the graphite and snow versions are the same speed.

The Airport Extreme base stations are faster. They also have an ethernet port for downstream networking, so you can use it as your router.

I have mine plugged directly into my cable modem, and connect all 4 macs in my house via wireless. When I occasionally need to plug in a wired ethernet computer, I just plug it into the network port on the base.

You can set up Airport to provide NAT/DHCP over wired as well as wireless clients.

Hope this helps.

Hello Everyone, aside from the speed difference, are there any "issues" using an early "Graphite" Airport, or a later "Snow" unit with Panther 10.3.3, regular Airport card, and internet cable modems? As the Airport has only one RJ-45 port, can an ethernet switch be connected between the cable modem and the Airport to provide a place for a non-wireless Mac to connect to the network?
Thanks, Jim.
