I actually have Comcast's broadband service. I have their cable modem (they don't charge a fee for it) connected directly to an Airport Extreme base station. I connect my wireless and wired Macs directly to the base. There's a network ethernet port for conencting downstream Macs to the base and they share the same NAT pool (same subnet).

The Airport Extreme base provides NAT to wireless and wired clients, so there's no need for another router.

Comcast provides little Mac support, but they're better than some.

Hope this helps.

Hi Folks, I am looking at Comcast, broadband internet cable, the only choice in my area. Is there such a device as a combined cable modem and router? Must I have a cable modem AND a router to use more than one computer on my internet cable? Where and how does a wireless device connect into this scheme? I will get one IP address from Comcast so I will need a NAT equipped device to share the connection. Does the Airport do this? Can one Mac connect via ethernet cable to the modem/router and another Mac use WiFi to share the connection? How about some Comcast approved brand name devices? Thanks very much. Jim.
