An iMic connects the minidisc recorder to the computer via a USB plug. Yes. And it sounds better than just connecting the recorder to the computer through the line in sound jack, if you have one. Yes.
When I said Soundboard > Minidisc, I was referring to plugging my minidisc recorder directly into the P.A. system that the sound engineer is mixing the music through at a live music venue. It's the actual console the soundman uses. I plug my minidisc into back of the soundboard and record whatever's going through the microphones on stage. That's a "soundboard" recording. For an "audience" recording, or just recording someone playing in your living room, you'd just record with a microphone to your minidisc, then transfer that analog recording to your Mac with an iMic... Apparently they allow you to translate from analogue to digital; upload from a recording device to a Mac through a USB plug without drivers. In addition, they process sound better than the sound card in the Mac. Am I correct on all these points? Hi-Fi Link says it works with PCs. Does it also work with Macs. I dont' understand the difference between the Hi-Fi Link and the MD-Port I/O. These devices apparently do not include a professional Mic jack. In simple terms what does a soundboard do? Can you get a small one without many controls? I assume these do have a profession Mic jack. Thanks to all, lily>> -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
