Lower slot will recognize the Apple DVD-Video card, and that's all. 9.x or 10.x, doesn't matter. I've tried a FireWire, USB and mini HDD, all to no avail, in the lower. Someone on this list suggested that perhaps a pin the the DVD card doesn't use is 'broken', and that I might want to replace the pcmcia cage. So I am; there are 3 for sale on ebay at this time, and one of 'em will be comin' home with me. I want a set-up such as you have; USB and FW. 'Cause this 'book seems to have more life than the Energizer bunny. I keep lookin' for an excuse to get a new laptop, but just can't seem to justify it, dagnabit :-)

Printing is broken? Does this mean via a usb printer or trying to use the serial ports? (serial ports don't work in x, or so I've been told)
And does the lower slot work at all? It seems a shame to have two slots and not have them both work. I use one with Firewire and one with USB while using it.
