When Apple gave us the option to display a picture in the Finder window for
some reason the programmers left out the ability to stretch or tile the
picture. (Maybe with Tiger.)

Here's what I did: I selected a picture I liked for my Finder window. Rather
than a photo, I selected a nice texture. The file was wide enough for any
window I might open but not nearly long enough - just as you describe. So I
opened the picture in Photoshop (choose your favorite graphics editing
program) and copied it. Then I pasted it below making the file twice as tall
as it had been. Unfortunately, there was a very noticeable line where the
two pieces abutted so I flipped the bottom piece 180 degrees. That made it
look tiled.

Now I have a nice Finder window picture without ever seeing a piece of white
at the bottom. Usually. As I said, maybe the engineers at Apple will think
to give us tiling in the Finder window.
