The length of time starting up File Sharing depends on how much of your drive you want to make available for sharing, and how many files are in that part of the drive. Try sharing just one fairly small partition or just a few multi-level folders, and it won't take any time at all to startup FS. >If i recall properly, it was a hassle, but I could connect either way. One of the potential problems when using a crossover cable is that some units have to have AppleTalk started up simultaneously on both units or AT won't start up at all. That's hard enough if you are sitting where you can reach both keyboards at the same time, but almost impossible if the computers are sitting more than 3 or 4 feet from each other. >One more thing, though if you've gotten this far, its probably fine -- >make sure the appletalk extension has your ethernet port picked. >Sometimes if its powered off/unplugged for a long time, it'll pick the >most bizarre option, probably just to be funny. (what a sense of humor >the 7200 has...) That won't happen if you are using a hub, which was one of the primary reasons I had in mind when I suggested it. The hub will keep the network alive even if there isn't a second computer plugged into it. So you won't get AppleTalk changing from "Ethernet" or "Airport" to the "modem/printer port" without you knowing it. >OT update-- i'm in the process of buying an iBook...
