Don't know why you couldn't leave it in all the time. You would just need
to switch your Appletalk connection and TCP/IP preference.

I would suspect that you would be more likely to damage the card cage by
bumping the antenna of the card than by gently inserting/removing the
card, unless you only use the machine in a static position on a desk.
