I had this phenomena on a 233MHz Wallstreet so I know (?) it's not the PowerBook.
How do I go about solving this so that I can install OS X ?
I've had this happen while running OS X. The solution for me is to restart in OS 9, put the laptop to sleep, wake it up then restart into OS X.
except he can't install x and is looking for help to do so given the problem
I guess I should have been explicit and suggested booting in 9, sleeping, waking then try the X install. That is what I was getting at.
