My friends who are into astrology would explain that this is all happening due to Mercury being retrograde through Sept. 6th. I think I'd attribute it to lousy planning on Apple's part regarding back-to-school, end-of-summer purchases.
I guess this just doesn't suprize me. In 15 years, I've yet to see Apple do anything right when it comes to sales during the Aug/Sep rush.
If you want to push them, I'm sure they'll be happy to ship you an iBook with extra broken pixels...
