Did you make sure that Safari 1.2 is still the default browser and there are
no other copy of it somewhere else on your disk?

If you checked, then there might be a problem with the launch services cache
(which, *I think*, is also called "locate") file. You might want to use a
tool like the free OnyX to clean all the caches.
