I know this very well, but I was more thinking about pressing down on
keys of the keyboard, which is right on top of the cooling plate.

this doesn't mean you can rule out the CPU seating completely. I'm not
saying it's particularly likely to be the cause either. One other
possibility is that any pressing on the top part or affecting the top
part affects the PMU or a cable connected to it. The PMU in my experience
if malfunctioning can shut down the WS. But there are more possibilities
of course.

About CPU: the CPU sits beside the HD and it also contains the RAM. I find that the CPU is very easy to move, if one remove the protecting shield above it.

The PMU on the other side, might be it. In fact, frequently when it shuts down it doesn't do so entirely quitely. In addition to sometimes creating a light show for a few secounds also it can end up in the sound you get when you reset the PMU or PRAM. I.e.. when you press the fn-key together with the keycombo for resetting the PMU or the PRAM.

Also, another reason for my reseat suggestion is that some problems with

In fact I did take out the CPU and place it back. I do think that it seems very loose -- but I don't know of to fasten it anything better.

WS-machines I've dealt with have been solved simply by taking apart the
machine and putting it together again (very thoroughly). One of them had
the exact symptoms you describe except that it was pressing on the CD-
Drive bezel that caused immediate shut down.

In fact I took out the keyboard completely and tried to press a little with my finger inside the empty room of the CD-bay. That seemed to help a tiny bit allthough I cannot say that it cured it. So, in other words you would perhaps recommend dismantling the WS and putting it together again. There are some webpage that tells how to do it ... I could try.

Also, as I said, I do not have a battery. Is it likely that a battery could help curing the issue, if it is the PMU?

And let us say that it is the PMU, could I then supposedly just buy/get a new PMU?
