I've just received an iBook/500 (dual usb). The computer came with a dead
combo drive. Does anyone know where I can receive a new one for cheap? I
have enough technical skills to install it myself.
I've done one and it's a LOT of work. There are about 40 screws to remove, mark and replace in the proper order to do this job. However, combo drives are plentiful on eBay. I got a Samsung 324 model there and while it's not officially supported by Apple, Patchburn II works just fine for Finder and iTunes burning. The DVD part always works, and it also boots from the C key.
