Not dumb, unless the update is only a day or two old. Most are probably not necessary for you, Jim Katz. Won't hurt, and one or two may help. Kind of wishy washy? I would never let these updates come in automatically with the first "Install" button that I see. I go to the Apple support site to read up on what each update version is and why, maybe, I might want it. Most importantly, I look at the date of release. I will never be the first to install a new one. I wait at least two or three weeks, and check these e-lists to see if anyone is claiming bad things about the release. Apple has really goofed on a few updates in the past 2/3 years; maybe that's all ancient history by now, but why take a chance? Apple never claims to perfectly test all update releases with all possible hardware and applications combinations. The untimate test for each update is in our hands, yours and mine. Then I download the updates that I want, one by one, and proceed with installing each, one by one, in my own good time. I make sure the machine is running ok with one update before I install another one. Take a good look at the Apple tech documents about the iBook Firmware and Airport. If you do not use Applescript, why bother? CarbonLib may be useful in support of specific applications, but you'd never know it except for reading the documentation about it. -- Al Poulin Anger, hate, and revenge are for the devil, forgiveness is for God, proactive self-defense is for the rest of us. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
